Music Beats Cancer Hosts Reception at BIO International Convention in San Diego

The event featured the world premiere of the song “Give More than You Take,” the lyrics of which Burton Sirota wrote while dying of cancer

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – June 15, 2022 – Music Beats Cancer, a 501(c)(3) charity, hosted a reception for biotech professionals in the Edge Room at the Hard Rock Cafe San Diego during the BIO International Convention. The reception, which took place June 13 from 7-9 p.m. PST, fostered a networking community for innovators working on promising solutions for cancer.

Music Beats Cancer founder Dr. Mona Jhaveri and The Science Advisory Board co-host Walt Schoenborn, hosted the reception, which was supported by Silicon Valley Bank, Illumina For StartUps, Vertex Laboratories, Alira Health, 360Medlink, Green Traurig, and EisnerAmper. These partners are key to the biotech ecosystem and the success of early-stage biomedical innovators.

One of the event’s highlights was The Dandelion Dream’s world premiere of the song “Give More Than You Take.” Lyricist Burton Sirota of Orange County, California, wrote the song’s words during his final days before losing his battle to cancer in 2020, and his musician friends set them to music.

“To help people like Burton, we need real collaboration with the public, and musicians are a great vehicle to help get us there,” said Dr. Jhaveri. “The union of music, people, scientists, and innovation is how we will beat cancer.”

Music Beats Cancer utilizes charitable crowdfunding to support cancer-fighting innovation and research, increasing the number of cancer-fighting technologies in the product development pipeline. The nonprofit supports the advancement of new solutions for cancer, so more treatments reach those in need. This addresses the “Valley of Death,” the severe funding gap that commonly forces entrepreneurs advancing cancer-fighting inventions to abandon their work. Most of these projects will fail before they get a chance to prove themselves due to lack of funding. Music Beats Cancer is changing this.

BIO is the world’s largest advocacy association for biotech, academic, and research institutions.
