Alira Health Contributes to 2022 Bioregion Report on the Future of Catalan Life Sciences

We are pleased to announce that we are a key contributor to the just released 2022 Bioregion Report, the benchmark study that analyzes the life sciences and healthcare sector in Catalonia, conducted by Biocat, BioRegion of Catalonia together with CataloniaBio & HealthTech and ACCIÓ. Our Market Access team aimed to analyze the main molecules that have entered the market based on innovation, and to identify those medical technology products that have accessed the market and how they have done so.

Some key findings from the report include –

• Investment in startups and scaleups has exceeded all expectations in 2022, achieving 445 million euros in funding, boosted by the first mega round in the history of the BioRegion, captured by dental health medtech Impress, with 122 million euros.
• Venture capital has once again been the primary source of financing, 95% of which involved international collaboration, followed by competitive grants (which have doubled compared to previous years), from the stock market, venture debt and crowdequity.
• Financing from risk capital (venture capital) has once again been the main driver of this growth, accumulating 343 million euros, 77% of the total capital raised.
• Foreign investment has also continued to hit record numbers. 95% of the total capital raised has included international investment companies. The number of international investment funds that have historically participated in operations has reached 117, a number that has doubled in the last three years.

This report was promoted at the presentation of the 2022 BioRegion Report on the 13^th of February. The event was attended by institutional representatives of the Government of Catalonia and included a presentation of key indicators from the BioRegion Report and several expert round tables on innovation, investment and healthcare.
